StarCraft II: Terran Battlecruiser Revealed

Blizzard has just unveiled the new StarCraft 2 Terran Battlecruiser Unit on the official site.

These massive, heavily armored combat ships are virtual flying fortresses, built to keep the peace and dominate the space lanes of the Koprulu sector. Outfitted with bristling laser batteries and thick neosteel armor, these imposing vessels are among the most powerful to be found in terran space. Many commanders use battlecruisers as their command vessels during extended campaigns. There are several examples of vessels specifically refitted for this purpose, such as General Duke’s Norad II and Norad III, as well as the battlecruiser Hyperion commanded by Jim Raynor.

StarCraft II: BlizzCon 2007 Previews and Videos on IGN

IGN has posted a bunch of new StarCraft 2 gameplay videos from BlizzCon 2007. They also have a couple preview reports: BlizzCon 2007: StarCraft II Single-player Campaign First Look and BlizzCon 2007: StarCraft II Hands-on.

"On the Terran side, we played one round specifically to assemble as many Thor units are possible. These are high level ground units, and are actually constructed on the field of battle by an SCV, instead of built at a facility. They're about as big as a building too, brandishing two gigantic arm cannons. While their shots are powerful, these thing are extremely slow to turn and fire, so they didn't seem that effective at attacking by themselves. They're big targets too, and with only a few siege tanks to back them up, the aggressive AI quickly took them out, even though we had a few SCVs assigned to repair each of them. Thor also have a special gun attack that, once triggered, unleashes an artillery barrage for several seconds from four cannons mounted on the unit's back. One unit we kept getting railed by while using Terran is the Protoss immortal, a heavily armored land machine with some extremely powerful cannons. It attacks fairly rapidly, but they're particularly difficult to take out, at least with the Terran army we were putting together, consisting mostly of heavy attack units."

StarCraft II: Protoss Twilight Archon

The latest official site feature profiles the Protoss Twilight Archon.

"While the high templar unleash fire and lightning, the dark templar stalk the shadows, swathed in darkness. However, both branches of the templar tradition share the ability to merge their souls to form a deadly archon."

"These swirling, burning effigies of the protoss spirit radiate incalculable power. Their devastating psionic storms can be unleashed against cowering enemy forces both in the air and on the ground. With the halves of the protoss race reunited, an archon can now be brought into being by the merge of two high templar, or two dark templar, or even the unification of a dark templar and a high templar. Although the protoss are loath to sacrifice valuable templar, those who do achieve this final level of commitment are forever honored in the memories of their people."

Korean StarCraft Gamer is Royalty

The LA Times has a new article profiling the Korean StarCraft Superstar, Lim Yo-hwan.

"For every teenage boy whose dad hollered to turn off that stupid video game because it'll rot your brain and ruin your life, Lim Yo-hwan is a god: The 27-year-old is the most famous professional gamer in South Korean electronic sports, and his dominance has earned him hundreds of thousands of dollars annually in salary, prize winnings and commercial endorsements."

"Lim's skill at playing the futuristic battle game StarCraft has turned him into the first superstar of the e-sports era, South Korea's Babe Ruth of gaming. Usually referred to by his nicknames Boxer (short for his game ID SlayerS_'BoxeR') or the Emperor, he has won more games of professional StarCraft than anyone else in South Korea, becoming a celebrity in a country so serious about gaming that it boasts professional leagues and two cable channels televising games 24/7. StarCraft 2: Protoss Warp Ray Unit

A new feature has been posted to the official site unveiling the Protoss Warp Ray Unit.

"A warp ray is a ship virtually built around a single gigantic power source: the prismatic core. This device seethes with energy drawn from two realms: the Void, which is truly understood only by the dark templar, and the psionic matrix, which underpins the technologies of the Aiur protoss. In combination these two energies form a self-sustaining reaction of terrifying potential."

"As the prismatic beam is held on the target, more of the focusing array becomes aligned, and up to three individual power streams combine together. Over a few seconds the beam's intensity and power grow exponentially. Few enemies can withstand the awful power of the prismatic beam for long: even large and heavily armored targets like buildings or battlecruisers are incinerated in moments."
